A solar system is a modern energy system that allows us to generate electricity at home. There are three types of solar systems.
- Solar On-Grid System
A grid-tie solar system is another name for an on-grid solar system. This solar system includes a solar panel and an inverter. Solar panels generate electricity in an on-grid solar system, and an inverter regulates the voltage to power your appliances. This solar system also allows you to export excess generation to the utility grid via net metering.
There are numerous models and capacities of solar on-grid systems available. After calculating their power usage and load consumption, you can select the best capacity on the solar grid system. This solar system also enables you to run your load without restriction.
- Solar System Off-Grid
An off-grid solar system includes a solar panel, a solar inverter, and a solar battery. This is also known as a stand-alone solar system. Solar panels generate electricity in this solar system, which is stored in a solar battery. This stored power is useful for providing backup power when solar panels are inactive or not generating electricity during the night or on a rainy day.
Off-grid solar systems are also available in a variety of capacities and models. Before purchasing any solar capacity system, please calculate your load consumption for an uninterrupted power supply.
- Solar Hybrid System
As the name implies, a hybrid solar system is a combination of the two previously mentioned solar systems, namely on-grid and off-grid solar systems. A hybrid solar system allows you to store excess electricity generation in a solar battery. If your solar battery is fully charged, it will automatically feed excess or unutilized electricity into the utility grid.
Hybrid solar systems are available in larger models beginning with a 5 kW solar system. A hybrid solar system is appropriate for you if you require both power backup and net metering.
Solar Panel

High-Performance Panels
The amount of sunlight (irradiation) that falls on the surface of a solar panel and is converted into electricity is measured as solar panel efficiency. Because of recent advances in photovoltaic technology, the average panel conversion efficiency has increased from 15% to over 20%. The power rating of a standard-sized panel improved from 250W to 370W due to this substantial increase in efficiency.
Two Major Factors determine the Efficiency of Solar Panels
- Cellular Efficiency
The cell structure and substrate used, typically P-type or N-type silicon, determine cell efficiency. The fill factor (FF), the maximum conversion efficiency of a PV cell at the optimum operating voltage and current, is used to calculate cell efficiency. Panel efficiency is heavily influenced by cell design. The silicon type, busbar configuration, and passivation type are important features (PERC). Panels constructed with high-cost IBC cells are currently the most efficient (20-22%) due to the high purity N-type silicon substrate and no busbar shading losses. Panels created with the most recent monocrystalline PERC cells and more advanced heterojunction (HJT) cells, on the other hand, have achieved efficiency levels well above 20%.
- Panel Effectiveness
Many factors affect panel efficiency, including temperature, irradiance level, cell type, and cell interconnection. Surprisingly, the color of the protective back sheet can impact efficiency. However, a black back sheet does seem more pleasing to the eye. It absorbs so much heat, raising the cell temperature and increasing the resistance, reducing total efficiency slightly. Standard test conditions (STC) for solar panel efficiency are 25°C cell temperature, 1000W/m2 solar irradiance, and 1.5 Air Mass. The maximum power rating, or Pmax (W) at STC, is effectively calculated by dividing the total panel area in metres squared by the total panel area in metres squared.
